Did you know that every country and every culture has a version of the story we know as "Cinderella"?
Here are some of my favorites:
-Yeh-Shen: a Cinderella story from China
Fun fact: Most fairytale researchers agree that the story originated in China where the custom of breaking girl's feet to keep them extra small was common. That's why Cinderella has such a tiny shoe that no one else can fit into it!
-The Turkey Girl: a Zuni Cinderella story
Fun Fact: In this tale, the heroine does not obey her curfew and as punishment she is left desolate at the end of the tale with no wedding.
-Cinderella by Charles Perrault (France)
Fun Fact: Disney based their movie primarily off this version of the story. This is the first time that shoes of glass (instead of fur or gold) appear.
